Welcome to PLIX LLM-Algorithm Arcade! Play and adapt familiar games to learn the FUNdamentals of artificial intelligence!

🥰 Ages 10+ 🕐 30-60 minutes 👩‍👧‍👦 up to 15 Participants 🍎 1–2 Facilitators 🎨 Craft Materials

What We ❤️ About This Activity

LLM Algorithm Arcade introduces learners to foundational AI concepts without using AI. It is playfully and thoughtfully designed to embody machine learning and word vectorization in large language models (LLMs), and can serve as a starting point for AI media literacy.

Imagine

Activities can be adapted in many ways — below are some ideas to help you imagine how your activity might look like.

Remix an idea prompt

💖
Social Media Recommendations

Doodle your interests and hobbies to share and guess what other people might like

Learn and discuss: how machine learning might predict what you would like on social media

💡
PoeticGPT

Answer questions using only the words from a single poem

Learn and discuss: database biases in machine learning

🧸
Build-a-sentence-bear

Build a sentence together using magnet words, and voting on the next word each time.

Learn and discuss: how word vectorization works in large language models, and how this might affect your trust in AI

🐆
Animal-gorithm Guess the secret categories of animals in this card game

Learn and discuss: embody the process of machine learning algorithms, and wonder

🍏
Apples-to-Apples-to-AI-biases Add bias cards to the decision-making part of the Apples-to-Apples game. Players are invited to guess the bias used.

Learn and discuss: biases that may be invisible in AI responses

✂️
Collage Story-crafting Dataset Using only the images from a single magazine, newspaper, catalog, grocery store flyer, or discarded book, create your own story using the same story prompt as other learners

Learn and discuss: datasets of images and how they might restrict creative outputs

Facilitate

Tips

This activity is designed to invite learners of all backgrounds into creating their own rules for data that is meaningful to them. The materials used in this activity are intentionally low-cost and friendly to encourage participants to try new things, mess around, make mistakes, and experiment.

🙋🏼‍♂️ Ask questions that learners can raise their hands for

…and provide different perspectives! For example, ask if rainy days make them sad, and also if rainy days make them feel calm or happy!
