Welcome to PLIX LLM-Algorithm Arcade! Play and adapt familiar games to learn the FUNdamentals of artificial intelligence!
🥰 Ages 10+ 🕐 30-60 minutes 👩👧👦 up to 15 Participants 🍎 1–2 Facilitators 🎨 Craft Materials
What We ❤️ About This Activity
LLM Algorithm Arcade introduces learners to foundational AI concepts without using AI. It is playfully and thoughtfully designed to embody machine learning and word vectorization in large language models (LLMs), and can serve as a starting point for AI media literacy.
Imagine
Activities can be adapted in many ways — below are some ideas to help you imagine how your activity might look like.
Remix an idea prompt
Doodle your interests and hobbies to share and guess what other people might like
Learn and discuss: how machine learning might predict what you would like on social media
Answer questions using only the words from a single poem
Learn and discuss: database biases in machine learning
Build a sentence together using magnet words, and voting on the next word each time.
Learn and discuss: how word vectorization works in large language models, and how this might affect your trust in AI
Learn and discuss: embody the process of machine learning algorithms, and wonder
Learn and discuss: biases that may be invisible in AI responses
Learn and discuss: datasets of images and how they might restrict creative outputs

Gather Materials
For Social Media Recommendations
For Animal-gorithm Print and cut our animal card deck or doodle your own dataset deck of illustrated animals, food, or other categories of things
For Apples-to-Apples-to-AI-biases
Print and cut our bias card deck or collectively create a set to use
Review and Print Resources
PLIX Zines are a supplementary resource for patrons and librarians to refer to. Use our guide to cut and assemble them on 8.5x11" paper.
Play along with our illustrated game guides to learn the FUNdamental AI concepts, and adapt them for your context!
Love our zine, but it doesn’t fit your adaptation of the activity? Remix our zine with this Google Slides template!

Tips
This activity is designed to invite learners of all backgrounds into creating their own rules for data that is meaningful to them. The materials used in this activity are intentionally low-cost and friendly to encourage participants to try new things, mess around, make mistakes, and experiment.
🙋🏼♂️ Ask questions that learners can raise their hands for
…and provide different perspectives! For example, ask if rainy days make them sad, and also if rainy days make them feel calm or happy!
